OMRON’S CREEP (2018)

Motorised cellophane curtain, Omron latching relay circuit with limit switches, pulley system, string, misc. objects. Exhibited in Drawn Beyond, Wimbledon Space. 2018.

Omron’s Creep is based on the electric mechanism of a latching relay circuit, controlled with limit switches.  Commonly used in lifts until their redundance by computerised systems, the press of a button would initiate the cab to move in one direction until its limit, and then turn around. Omron’s Creep is a badly behaved and overwhelmingly analogue machine. A pulley systems of strings fitted across the room draws and retracts a cellophane curtain in a strained, and sometimes bodily movement.
